The Los Angeles Dodgers have made an unprecedented move in the baseball world by signing former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to a lifetime contract, per The Babylon Bee. The deal, which has left fans and analysts alike in disbelief, sees Trudeau's country, Canada, deferred, essentially making him a permanent fixture in the Dodgers' franchise.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts expressed his unconventional strategy behind the signing, stating, "We plan to use Trudeau primarily as a setup man out of the bullpen. His experience in high-pressure situations in politics might just translate well into the late innings of tight games."
Roberts said he is also considering using Trudeau as a late-game pinch hitter. "He was a two-way player in Little League, for the record."
The news of Trudeau's signing was met with mixed reactions, most notably from Dodgers' star Shohei Ohtani, who, through his new translator, offered a bewildered yet polite response: "I'm sorry, eh."
In a kind gesture, Ohtani has given his number 17 to Trudeau to wear. Ohtani will instead don the number 99 - not worn since Manny Ramirez - this season.
This move marks a historic first for the Dodgers, who have never before signed a politician to play on their roster. General Manager Andrew Friedman hinted at more surprising signings in the future, stating, "We are literally looking at all living beings on earth."
As the Dodgers gear up for the season with another peculiar addition to their roster, fans are left wondering if political acumen can translate into pitching prowess. Will Trudeau's tenure as Prime Minister give him the edge to deliver under pressure, or is this just another curveball in the Dodgers' strategy?
