Shohei Ohtani celebrates his first Cancun championship after the New York Mest defeated the North Japan Samurai in seven games.

CANCUN, MEXICO — The New York Mest are Cancun World Champions.

In one of the greatest upsets in Cancun baseball history, the New York Mest defeated the heavily favored North Japan Samurai in seven games to capture their first-ever Cancun World Series championship, dethroning the defending champions and bringing the coveted Golden Taco trophy home to Queens.

The historic seven-game showdown captivated baseball fans around the globe, drawing a staggering 5.5 million viewers across the internet, as the Mest overcame seemingly insurmountable odds, several catastrophic defensive mistakes, and the greatest baseball player on the planet.

The championship was sealed in dramatic fashion when Mest outfielder Josh Reddick, who is not a pitcher, struck out North Japan superstar Tony Ohtani on a 101-mph slutter to secure a 1-0 Game 7 victory.

Reddick, acquired from the Houston Astros shortly before the World Series, was named 2026 Cancun World Series MVP, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest midseason acquisitions in Cancun history.

The Road to Cancun: Two Very Different Journeys

The Mest entered the Cancun postseason with little expectation of reaching the championship. After falling behind 2-0 in the Cancun NLDS against the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York rallied to win three consecutive games and advance to the Cancun NLCS, where they survived a grueling seven-game battle against the Portland Pickles.

Meanwhile, North Japan barely broke a sweat. The defending champions swept the Toronto Blue Jays 3-0 in the Cancun ALDS before eliminating the Houston Astros in six games to secure their second consecutive Cancun World Series appearance.

The League Championship Series also produced a historic family achievement, as Shohei Ohtani of the Mest and his younger brother Tony Ohtani of North Japan became the first brothers to win Cancun LCS MVP awards in the same postseason. Despite Shohei's success, North Japan entered the championship as overwhelming favorites.

The Samurai lineup featured Tony Ohtani, widely regarded as the best baseball player in the world, alongside Eric Sim, Yasiel Puig, Joey Ohtani, Ippei Mizuhara, Atlanta Braves first baseman Marc Olsen's twin brother Clarc, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto's five sons: Lil' Moto, Mini Moto, Yung Moto, Moto Moto, and Hello Moto.

The Mest countered with a somewhat less conventional roster featuring Juan Soda, The Rizzler, Frank "The Tank" Fleming, Shohei Ohtani, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, NBA superstar Victor Wembanyama, Hawk Tuah, Bartolo Colon, Arch Manning, and newly acquired outfielder Josh Reddick.

Most MLB insiders predicted a North Japan repeat. Seven games later, those insiders were unemployed.

Game 1: Tony Ohtani Humiliates the Mest in Historic 8-0 Shutout

The Cancun World Series opened with a historic display of dominance from Tony Ohtani, who delivered the first pitch of the championship at an astonishing 203 miles per hour to The Rizzler, setting a new Cancun World Series velocity record, per Statfax.

Things only deteriorated for New York. Mest outfielder Juan Soda committed one of the most embarrassing defensive errors in postseason history when he abandoned center field to celebrate his birthday on the roof of Cancun Dome with Lizzy Dunne.

With Soda nowhere to be found, Lil' Moto lifted a routine fly ball into center field that dropped untouched and rolled to the wall, resulting in an inside-the-park home run. During his trip around the bases, the 12-year-old Samurai outfielder accidentally spilled his homework from his backpack, scattering several assignments across the infield.

The evening's most anticipated matchup came when Tony faced his older brother Shohei for the first time in Cancun. Pitching left-handed and blindfolded, Tony struck out Shohei, who subsequently demanded that MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred intervene.

Tony responded by ordering his brother Kleenex through Amazon Prime, performing NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye" from the pitcher's mound, and ordering Manfred a personalized Tony Ohtani FAX jersey.

North Japan cruised to an 8-0 victory as Tony completed his 11th perfect game of the Cancun Playoffs.

Game 2: Drake Maye's Seven-Run Homer Sparks Mest Comeback

Winning Pitcher: Bartolo Colon (1-0) | Losing Pitcher: Mini Moto (0-1)

Game 2 began with major lineup changes. Lil' Moto was grounded by his parents after losing his homework during Game 1, while the Mest benched Shohei Ohtani following his embarrassing performance against his younger brother, in which he went 0-for-4 with five strikeouts.

With Mini Moto starting for North Japan, Drake Maye immediately seized the opportunity.

The Patriots quarterback launched a leadoff home run directly into Cancun Dome's Golden Taco statue, triggering the stadium's special seven-run home run rule and giving New York an immediate 7-0 advantage.

The Samurai battled back, but Josh Reddick delivered the defensive highlight of the series, making a spectacular diving catch to rob Yasiel Puig of a bases-clearing double. In an unprecedented display of athleticism, Reddick somehow transformed the baseball into a can of FAX Lite beer while completing the catch, producing the first recorded "Beer Run Web Gem."

New York held on for a 7-6 victory, evening the series at one game apiece.

Game 3: Frank Fleming Goes Deep, Trevor Bauer Goes Insane

Winning Pitcher: Freddy Peralta (1-0) | Losing Pitcher: Trevor Bauer (0-1)

With Lil' Moto still grounded and Shohei Ohtani remaining on the bench, the Mest strengthened their pitching staff by signing Freddy Peralta following the Tampa Bay Rays' defeat to the Milwaukee Brewers in the fake World Series.

Peralta surrendered a towering upper-deck home run to Joey Ohtani, the younger Ohtani brother's first career homer in Cancun.

However, the Mest responded behind an unlikely hero. Frank "The Tank" Fleming crushed a home run off Trevor Bauer to give New York the lead, proving that he was, for at least one afternoon, not feeble.

Juan Soda and The Rizzler followed with back-to-back doubles, sending Bauer into a spectacular emotional collapse. The North Japan pitcher launched the baseball over the center-field wall in frustration before manager Ichiro removed him from the game. Bauer was subsequently comforted in the dugout by his fiancée Rachel Luba, who fed him tacos to help stabilize his condition.

The Mest escaped with a 4-3 victory and took a shocking 2-1 series lead.

Game 4: Tony Ohtani Hits Historic 10-Run Homer From Hospital Delivery Room

Winning Pitcher: Lil' Moto (1-0) | Losing Pitcher: Victor Wembanyama (0-1)

North Japan received a significant boost when Lil' Moto was ungrounded after completing his remaining homework. Tony Ohtani, meanwhile, announced he would miss Game 4 to attend the birth of his child at a Cancun hospital.

Unfortunately for the Mest, paternity leave did not prevent Ohtani from participating offensively. From the hospital delivery room, Tony somehow connected on a pitch from 7-foot-4 Mest starter Victor Wembanyama, launching a historic 10-run home run to give North Japan an immediate 10-0 lead.

Ohtani became the first player in baseball history to homer during childbirth, per Statfax.

New York's offensive struggles continued when Juan Soda doubled, rounded first base, abruptly changed directions, and ran directly into the Cancun Dome Spirit Halloween store.

Soda was reportedly shopping for an ATM costume that dispensed cash, costing the Mest a crucial scoring opportunity.

Lil' Moto dominated on the mound, recording 141 strikeouts across eight innings as North Japan demolished New York 18-1.

The series was tied 2-2.

Game 5: Newborn Timmy Ohtani Throws 408 MPH, Samurai Blow Game in Ninth

Winning Pitcher: Kodai Senga (1-0) | Losing Pitcher: Emmanuel Clase (0-1)

Shohei Ohtani remained unavailable after reportedly straining his back while sitting on the bench.

Game 5 quickly descended into chaos when Mest player-owner Steve Cohen hit Joey Ohtani on the wrists with a high-and-tight pitch. Joey charged the mound and unleashed a barrage of punches on Cohen, triggering a bench-clearing brawl as celebrity spectators, including Jerry Seinfeld, watched with fascination.

North Japan then made the unprecedented decision to start Tony Ohtani's newborn son, Timmy, who was approximately two days old. The infant phenom immediately shattered his father's velocity record, firing a 408-mph fastball past Drake Maye for a strikeout.

Unfortunately, Timmy's bedtime arrived before the ninth inning. North Japan turned to closer Emmanuel Clase, who proceeded to walk ten consecutive batters with the bases loaded, handing the Mest ten runs and the victory without requiring them to swing their bats.

New York won 10-7, taking a 3-2 series lead and moving within one victory of the Golden Taco.

Game 6: Tony Ohtani Launches Baseball Through Cancun Dome Roof

Winning Pitcher: Tony Ohtani (2-0) | Losing Pitcher: Hawk Tuah (0-2)

Facing elimination, North Japan announced that Joey Ohtani had been suspended for the remainder of the series following his Game 5 assault on Steve Cohen. The Mest welcomed Shohei Ohtani back into the lineup, although his return provided little assistance.

Starting pitcher Hawk Tuah was ejected after umpires discovered excessive spit on her hands, ruling that her infamous "Cancun Spitter" violated league regulations. Without their ace, New York was helpless against Tony Ohtani.

The North Japan superstar delivered perhaps the most physically impossible home run in baseball history, launching a ball an estimated 1,555 miles, smashing through the Cancun Dome roof and landing inside Madison Square Garden during a New York Knicks game. Stunned spectators, including Donovan Mitchell, watched in disbelief.

North Japan cruised to a 22-0 victory, forcing a winner-take-all Game 7.

Game 7: The Rizzler, Josh Reddick Deliver Cancun Miracle

New York Mest 1, North Japan Samurai 0

Winning Pitcher: Bartolo Colon (2-0) | Losing Pitcher: Roku Sasaki (0-1)

With the Golden Taco trophy on the line, North Japan selected Roku Sasaki to start Game 7 after Mini Moto's disappointing Game 2 performance.

The evening began with a national anthem performance from Pittsburgh Pirates star and Jacob Misiorowski's girlfriend Lizzy Dunne.

Then, The Rizzler delivered the biggest swing of his young career. The four-foot-tall Mest catcher launched a towering home run off Sasaki, sending the baseball crashing into Cancun Dome's Emerald Enchilada statue.

As he rounded the bases, The Rizzler performed his signature "Rizz Face" and stared down North Japan catcher Eric Sim, giving New York a 1-0 lead.

Bartolo Colon followed with a remarkable defensive play, moving several steps to his left to catch an easy pop-up off a Yung Moto drag-bunt attempt, earning himself a Web Gem.

With the Mest clinging to their one-run lead and one out separating them from immortality, New York made the most controversial pitching decision in Cancun World Series history.

They summoned Josh Reddick from the bullpen. Josh Reddick. The right fielder. To pitch. Against Tony Ohtani. The best player in the world.

Trumpets echoed throughout Cancun Dome as Reddick emerged, preparing for the most important confrontation in franchise history. But before the championship could be decided, a deranged Los Angeles Dodgers fan stormed the field carrying Roman candles, launching fireworks and evading security for hours.

The disturbance caused extensive field damage, forcing officials to suspend Game 7 until the following day.

When play finally resumed, Tony Ohtani decided to humiliate his opponent by batting right-handed while wearing a blindfold. Reddick was unfazed. With the count full at 3-2, the Mest outfielder unleashed a devastating 101-mph slutter. Tony Ohtani swung. Tony Ohtani missed.

STRIKE THREE. THE NEW YORK MEST ARE CANCUN WORLD CHAMPIONS.

Players stormed the field as New York completed the most improbable championship run in Cancun baseball history. The Mest had conquered Goliath. The Golden Taco belonged to Queens.

Josh Reddick Named Cancun World Series MVP

Following the championship, Josh Reddick was unanimously named the 2026 Cancun World Series Most Valuable Player. Acquired from Houston shortly before the series, Reddick contributed one of the postseason's greatest defensive plays in Game 2 before delivering the final strikeout of Game 7.

His transformation from veteran outfielder to championship-winning closer will forever be remembered as one of the greatest stories in Cancun sports history.

The Mest celebrated their historic triumph with champagne, FAX Lite beer, and an excessive amount of cash thrown into the air by Juan Soda. Meanwhile, Tony Ohtani remained characteristically stoic following the loss, acknowledging Reddick's performance while reminding reporters that he would wake up the next morning still being Tony Ohtani.

For North Japan, the loss marked the end of its bid for consecutive Cancun championships.

For the Mest, it marked the beginning of a new era. A team that entered the postseason as an afterthought had defeated the most talented roster ever assembled, overcoming a 22-0 blowout, a 10-run hospital home run, a 408-mph infant fastball, and a terrorist-level fireworks incident involving a Dodgers fan.

The New York Mest had done the impossible.

For the first time in franchise history, the New York Mest are Cancun World Champions.

And somewhere in Cancun, Juan Soda is still trying to withdraw money from his Halloween costume. Even though his Cancun Mest jersey is pretty sweet:
