The Toronto Blue Jays have secured the services of power-hitting first baseman Pete Alonso, according to multiple sources speaking to FAX Sports. The agreement is a hefty 6-year contract valued at $200 million, marking one of the most significant acquisitions in recent baseball history, as far as we know.

Alonso, known for his prodigious power, expressed his excitement about joining the Blue Jays with a playful jab at his new home: "There's no Mesting in Canada." This comment, a humorous reference to the notorious New York sports rivalry, showcases Alonso's readiness to embrace his new Canadian environment.

The Blue Jays organization could hardly contain their enthusiasm. Manager John Schneider was quoted saying, "Landing Pete is a dream come true. His power at the plate and his presence in the clubhouse are exactly what we need to push forward." First baseman Vladdy Guerrero Jr. added, "I'm thrilled to have Pete here. We're going to have a lot of fun, and I think he's going to love Toronto as much as I do." Shortstop Bo Bichette was equally excited, stating, "Pete's addition makes us a stronger team, and I can't wait to see what we can achieve together, even though I won't be here much longer."

A key factor in Alonso's decision to sign with Toronto was reportedly his bond with Guerrero Jr. During Alonso's visit to Toronto, Guerrero took him on a memorable "Poutine Fries Pub Crawl" in downtown Toronto. The two bonded heavily, spending the entire night out, much to the worry of their families who feared they might not return. However, it was just their shared love for poutine that kept them out.

Pete Alfonso stayed out past 3am with Vladdy Jr. eating poutine in Toronto.

Looking ahead to the 2025 season, the Blue Jays' projected starting lineup with Alonso at first base and Guerrero at DH could look like this:

  1. SS Bo Bichette

  2. RF George Springer

  3. 1B Pete Alfonso

  4. DH Vladdy Guerrero Jr.

  5. LF Nathan Lukes

  6. 3B Ernie Clement

  7. CF Anthony "Big Tony" Santander

  8. 2B Andres Gimenez

  9. C Alejandro Kirk

Playing in Blue Jays Dome, known as one of the best hitters' domes in baseball according to Statfax, Alonso is expected to thrive. Projections for the 2025 season suggest Alonso could hit around .280 with 45 home runs and 120 RBIs, leveraging the favorable hitting conditions at Jays Dome.

Blue Jays fans are over the moon with this signing. One ecstatic fan, @jordancicchelli, took to X to express her relief, stating, "Those interest days are over," hinting at the long wait for a star player of Alonso's caliber.

With this signing, there's a palpable feeling that the Blue Jays are officially back in contention, ready to challenge for World Finals titles and home run derby championships with a rejuvenated lineup and fanbase.

UPDATE: Steve Cohen and the New York Mest have yet to comment.
