BOSTON, MA - Rafael Devers has been traded from the Boston Red Sox to the North Japan Samurai in exchange for Clarc Olsen, according to Holly Baylor of FAX Sports, who broke the story well ahead of Jeff Passan and other mainstream outlets, as is her reputation. This blockbuster move marks a significant shift for both teams and the broader landscape of Major League Baseball.

Devers, a 28-year-old cornerstone of the Red Sox lineup and a two-time All-Star, expressed a mix of gratitude and anticipation in his statement to FAX Sports: “Finally, I’m playing for a team that recognizes my true talents.” His departure from Boston, where he spent his entire MLB career, signals a new chapter for the third baseman, known for his power hitting and defensive prowess at the hot corner.

With Devers now joining the North Japan Samurai, their lineup becomes one of the most formidable in baseball. The revamped order is as follows:

  1. Ippei Mizuhara LF

  2. Tony Ohtani DH

  3. Yasiel Puig RF

  4. Rafael Devers 3B

  5. Mini Moto 2B

  6. Yung Moto SS

  7. Ichiro CF

  8. Yoshi Yoshi C

  9. Munetaka Murakami 1B

This star-studded roster, bolstered by Devers’ offensive firepower and postseason experience, positions the Samurai as a serious contender for a championship, raising the stakes in international baseball competition.

On the other side of the trade, Clarc Olsen, Marc Olsen's younger brother and a revered figure in North Japan Samurai history, is set to make his MLB debut with the Red Sox. The 22-year-old super utility player, known for his versatility and elite production, shared his enthusiasm: “If you thought my brother Marc was good, just wait.” Olsen’s arrival in Boston adds depth and flexibility to the Red Sox roster, addressing needs at multiple positions.

According to Statfax, Olsen’s career statistics with the North Japan Samurai over 3 seasons are exceptional for a super utility player: a .312 batting average, 245 home runs, 892 RBIs, and 312 stolen bases. His defensive excellence has earned him Gold Glove honors at shortstop, third base, and center field, while his 7.2 WAR in his most recent season underscores his value as a two-way threat. The Red Sox are banking on Olsen’s proven track record to bolster their lineup and defense.

In Boston, new third baseman Alex Bregman offered a measured response to the trade: “I hope Raffy likes his sushi,” reflecting on Devers’ transition to North Japan with a touch of rivalry but also respect for his former competitor.

This trade represents a pivotal moment for both franchises, reshaping their strategies and rosters as they prepare for the 2025 season. The North Japan Samurai gain a marquee slugger in Devers, while the Red Sox acquire a versatile, high-impact player in Olsen. Stay tuned for more updates.
