CANCUN - The All-Star break is over, trade rumors are heating up, and the race for the 2026 Cancun Playoffs is officially on.

If the season ended today, we'd have a playoff field featuring two unstoppable Japanese superpowers, a New York Mest team somehow backing into October, and the San Diego Padres looking to upset the Mest and make a statement in Cancun. The Golden Taco has never felt closer... or farther away.

Here's how the bracket would look as of July 15, 2026, following the All-Star break. (Yes, we're already clearing space for the Cancun Dome confetti.) Real MLB resumes its second half this week after the American League's 4-0 All-Star Game win, making this the perfect time to imagine baseball's real postseason.

American League Preview

(6) Seattle Mariners vs. (3) Los Angeles Angels

The Mariners somehow managed to lose just enough games to sneak into the Cancun Playoffs, where losing is rewarded. Their reward? A first-round meeting with an Angels club that has mastered the art of being historically bad.

Prediction: Angels in four.

(5) TBD Athletics vs. (4) Kansas City Royals

The Royals have spent months sprinting toward mediocrity while the A's continue proving that rebuilding can last forever.

Expect approximately 27 defensive errors, four blown saves and at least one fan wondering if this is actually baseball.

Edge: Royals in five.

(2) South Japan Southern Samurai vs. Winner of Mariners/Angels

South Japan enters at 137-23, making them arguably the greatest team on Earth...

...which is unfortunate because they still aren't the best team in Japan.

They'll be heavily favored against the Angels. Joey Ohtani clears Mike Trout.

(1) North Japan Samurai vs. Winner of Royals/Athletics

Tony Ohtani and the defending Cancun champions are now 167-0.

They've won everything.

They've broken every record.

They've probably already reserved the championship parade.

Unless the Royals discover seven ace pitchers overnight, this series may last about four innings.

National League Preview

(6) Cincinnati Reds vs. (3) Colorado Rockies

The Rockies somehow earned the No. 3 seed despite owning one of baseball's worst records. Cancun logic remains undefeated.

Meanwhile, the Reds simply kept losing at the right pace.

Edge: Rockies in three.

(5) Atlanta Braves vs. (4) Milwaukee Brewers

The Braves still have one of baseball's better real-world records, but in Cancun they're dangerously close to missing the postseason entirely.

The Brewers, meanwhile, accidentally won too many games and now have to face Atlanta.

Prediction: Braves survive in five games after blowing four different leads.

(2) San Diego Padres vs. Winner of Reds/Rockies

San Diego avoided the North Japan side of the bracket, which qualifies as the biggest victory of their season.

The Padres have quietly positioned themselves as legitimate Taco contenders... assuming they don't have to play Japan.

Manny Machado and Francisco Tatis Jr. will easily handle either Cincinnati or Colorado.

(1) New York Mest vs. Winner of Braves/Brewers

Somehow...

Some way...

The New York Mest earned the No. 1 seed after spending months inventing new ways to lose baseball games.

The bad news? They're still the Mest. The good news? This is still Cancun.

The Rizzler, Frank the Tank, Hawk Tuah and Juan Soda will be ready to give the Braves another epic series.

Edge: Mest in seven.

Championship Predictions

ALCS

North Japan Samurai vs. South Japan Southern Samurai

The matchup the world has been waiting for.

The only team capable of challenging North Japan... is another Japan.

Expect 103 mph splitters, 600-foot home runs and at least one ball leaving Cancun airspace.

Prediction: North Japan in six.

NLCS

San Diego Padres vs. New York Mest

The Padres have the talent.

The Mest have the chaos.

History says never underestimate a team that specializes in Mesting.

Prediction: Mest in five.

Cancun World Series Prediction

North Japan Samurai vs. New York Mest

The rematch we've all been waiting for. Is this the year the Mest finally take down Tony Ohtani?

We simply have no reason to think so. An epic battle will conclude with Shohei's better younger brother raising the Golden Taco yet again.

Prediction: North Japan in seven.
